WHAT ARE THE RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR POOL FENCES?
We are up to date with the latest fencing regulations, so will be able to inform you of local compliances. You may also like to look online for yourself @ www.dip.qld.gov.au/poolfencing, or phone 1800153262 to gather more information.
Current legislation makes swimming pool compliance compulsory, and fencing is the most effective method of compliance so responsible pool owners must comply to pool safety regulations . All pool fencing is supplied with a compliance certificate to certify that the fence panel/gate has been fabricated to comply with current pool fence regulations.
When we install your new pool fence you will have to have the installed fence certified. You must arrange and pay for an independent certifier to issue the certificate.
WHAT ABOUT NEIGHBOURS & BOUNDARY FENCING?
As a courtesy Jakeda recommends that you inform your neighbour of your fencing intentions, even if you plan to pay for the full installation of the fence. If you want your neighbor to contribute to the cost of the fence, try to arrange a split between neighbours for the fair cost of their share of the fencing. If you would like your neighbour/s to contribute you must notified them prior to construction or repair. If you fail to give them a fencing notice or notice to repair, you will not be covered under the Dividing Fences Act (this act relates to the repair & or construction of fences that divide adjoining land) and you will be liable for the full cost of the fence. Jakeda can work out cost of each neighbours share by a meter rate on each neighbour’s boundary. In your quote we can disclose amount for each party involved with one of the neighbours taking responsibility of accepting the quote which will be under their name & ensuring that quote will be paid in full.
WHAT TYPE OF GATES CAN I GET?
There are many gates available from sliding gates, swinging gates, pedestrian gates, security gates, wooden gates etc.
Steel is the most commonly used material for gates. A gate made out of tubular steel will be strong and durable. A gate can have infill panels made out of wrought iron, Colorbond, or timber which increases the design options for your gates. Our metal work is galvanized or hot dipped Steel gates and fences are very strong & durable so a great choice for security reasons.
Timber Gates will last longer and weather better if stained and sealed. This does need to be an ongoing job to extend the lifetime of your gates. You have different styles of timber gates from pickets, palings, slats & horizontal slats.
Chain-wire is also an option for gates as an inexpensive option.
Sliding gates look great and require little maintenance. They are secure & affordable, & they can be automated by power, solar or manually operated.
Swinging gates are a great alternative if space is an issue if there is no room for a sliding gate to open. They can also be automated by power, solar or manually operated.
Pedestrian gates are used for personal access only. These gates are great for entry/exits from your property to neighboring properties/parks/street/beach/car parking access etc. These are fabricated to a size wide enough wheelie bins, wheelbarrows or whatever your needs may be.
WHAT ARE ENCLOSURES USED FOR?
Jakeda specialises in a range of enclosures to provide a safe & secure area for your children to play, or your pets/animals to have a spacious & safe area to roam around in. Or for your business to have a secure area to store equipment/tools, or for keeping people/vehicles in or out.
At home enclosures can be used in your garage or car parking space to lock up your belongings, toys or at sports clubs to store equipment etc.
If you think you may need an enclosure, Jakeda listen to your needs & requirements, and then can construct an enclosure for your purpose. These enclosures can be of any size, can be made out of chainwire, chicken wire, aluminium, timber or weldmesh & can even be removable if required.
HOW ABOUT LOCKS?
Magna latches are most commonly used for pool fencing & are generally keyed alike. D latches are a standard lock commonly used when a lockable latch is not required.
Lok-latches are key lockable & are an alternative to a d latch & are both stylish & affordable.
DO I HAVE TO PAY A DEPOSIT & WHAT ARE YOUR PAYMENT CONDITIONS?
Once you have accepted our quote we ask you to sign it & send it back to us along with a 10% deposit of quoted price.
For jobs over $10,000 we ask for a further deposit of quoted price upon delivery of materials & commencement of works.
Full payment is to be made within 7 days after completion of works.
Internet banking is our preferred method of payment otherwise cheques or cash.
HOW LONG UNTIL MY FENCE/GATES OR ENCLOSURE IS INSTALLED?
Once your deposit has been received Jakeda will commence with ordering your materials. Often standard materials & colours are already in stock which means installation can begin earlier, if fabrication is required this commonly takes 7-10 days.
At this time we will make a call to our suppliers/manufactures, so that we can then estimate commencement date from their response. Jakeda then follow up with a confirmed start date closer to the time once we have all materials required to start your project. We usually say 3 weeks, but will always aim to get your job done sooner if we can.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO BEFORE HAVING A FENCE GATE OR ENCLOSURE INSTALLED?
Jakeda always recommend that you contact your local council to find out if there are any building regulations and permits required for building a fence.
Confirm your properties boundary & check your house plans to determine the location of any underground gas, water, sewage and power lines. If required you can contact the ‘dial before your dig’ hotline on www.dialbeforeyoudig.com.au
Jakeda will include removal & disposal of *existing fencing/gates any trimming of trees etc in quote. Some of our customers prefer to do these themselves which is fine as long as we have a clear & easy access to the area that needs fencing before work is to commence. It is also important to have an area for delivery of materials which is easily assessable for Jakeda as well as being a safe area for pedestrian’s children, pets etc.
* Asbestos needs to be removed by an appropriately certified business (check online for companies who specialize in this).
WHAT REGULAR MAINTENANCE DOES MY FENCE/ GATE OR ENCLOSURE NEED?
Jakeda advises to keep your fence in good order by regularly checking & keeping your maintenance up to date. By replacing any missing hardware, tightening loose fittings, touch up of paint etc. Even the best fences will require some maintenance.
A powder coated fence requires regular maintenance to keep it looking good. Jakeda recommends you regularly wash down your fence using a soft brush or sponge with warm water and a mild detergent. This should be done every 4-6 months; you will need to do this more often if your fence/gates or enclosures are near the ocean, chlorinated water or industrial areas.
A timber fence/gate/enclosure will last longer and weather better if it is stained and sealed. These should be stained and sealed every three years. Most fence manufacturers recommend choosing a coloured stain as the pigments provide protection from sun damage. Clear sealants need to be reapplied every year.
You can leave your fence/gates /enclosure to weather naturally if you like the rustic silver-grey colouring which occurs with natural aging wood, so no need for this process.
WHO USES JAKEDA SERVICES?
Jakeda provide fencing /gates / enclosures to residential customers, business, educational, commercial and industrial sectors. Builders, schools, kindergartens, child care facilities, factories, hospitals and other organisations. No job is too big or too small for Jakeda.
HOW LONG WILL MY FENCE/GATES OR ENCLOSURE LAST?
There are many factors which will affect the life of a fence including the materials used, ground conditions (soil, sand, etc) climate, human/animal contact etc. A properly installed fence should be able to last a long time if it is appropriately maintained.
CAN WE GET GATES TO MATCH OUR FENCING/ENCLOSURES?
Jakeda can get matching gates made as we specialise in gates for home fence installation, rural, commercial, factory or industrial fencing. We can provide standard d latches, lok latches, magna latches or automation. Jakeda can handle the whole project from start to finish including the manufacture of the gate, the installation, motor, remotes & wiring if required.
