Retaining
Retaining walls are ideal if you are dealing with a sloping section, to contain an area of land which has been cut into, hold back soil that has moved over time or as a feature to create a gardening structure.
They can also be used as a feature to hide unsightly or unappealing
natural land or banks around your property.
Treated pine, hardwood or concrete sleepers are commonly used for retaining
as well as tyres or other recycled materials can look stunning.
Depending on the size, height & what if anything will be on the retaining wall will determine what structural posts & support you will need & fences can usually be incorporated within your retaining wall.
Allowances must also be made for drainage, sufficient compacted soil, footings etc before you begin.
Building permits are not required for retaining wall that are less than 1000mm in height above the natural ground surface & are not to be closer than 1000mm to a building or another retaining wall.
Garden Features
This form of gardening in which the soil is enclosed in a containment unit, with the size, length, or shape of your choice, that can be ground level or raised to a more accessible height.
These garden beds can contain colourful flowers, plants or can be your veg patch & are especially popular for elderly gardeners who would like to continue spending time in their gardens, but physically find it difficult to continually bend up & down.
These structures are also great for combining the need to retain some parts of your property
in a stylish practical form
Climbing frames are free-standing vertical &/or horizontal framework used to support plants encouraging plants to grow up, not out.
They can be used as a planting bed for plants, flowers or vegetables, privacy screen or as a feature within your property.
Trellis is a cheaper garden structure used as a screen or as a support for helping to grow climbing plants & shrubs.
