FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS…
WHO USES JAKEDA & WHAT AREAS DO YOU SERVICE?
We are a family run business with most of our work here on the Sunshine Coast, especially around the Caloundra area where we are based. However, we do quote & accept work for bigger jobs in Brisbane, South East Queensland & beyond. We supply fences, gates enclosures & retaining for residential, commercial, rural & industrial properties. Our most regular clients are homeowners, body corps, aged care facilities, private schools, apartment complexes & local shops/cafes.We do not have a meterage rate for our fencing, as each job is quoted for separately.
HOW DO I GET A QUOTE?
The quickest way to receive a quote from us for your fencing project is to either click the contact form on this website or email us your contact details including phone number & address/suburb. Then as much information as possible including length, height, style, materials, gates, lay of the land, site plans, also photos if relevant. We can then forward you a quote (usually within a week) based on information given (which will be subject to price variation if site differs from description given) followed up by an on-site meeting if required. Alternatively, Scott will be able to measure & quote your job when he is next in your area. We are based in Caloundra so onsite visits down this end of the coast can occur quicker than the northern or hinterland areas.Scott is very knowledgeable & will listen to what you would like, the purpose of your project & if it is to be for boundary, privacy, security, safety, sound/wind barrier, upgrade existing, decorative or to simply add value. He will offer suggestions on the location & layout including height, length, style & design, he will also explain what materials are recommended & available. We are happy to quote on a range of options, as we are well aware that budget has a big part to play in the final selection of your fence/gates or enclosure. If you would like to proceed with our quote, please sign & return via email. If you aren’t able to scan or print, I can post you a copy to sign & return.
DO I HAVE TO PAY A DEPOSIT & WHAT ARE YOUR PAYMENT CONDITIONS?
The below terms & conditions (these are on your quote) will need to be signed & agreed upon before commencement of works. Once this is received, we generate an invoice for a 10% deposit & let you know a date range for instalment. It is very difficult to estimate an exact start day too far in advance. This is due to circumstances changing; materials not being ready, other jobs being postponed, weather conditions etc, so we appreciate your patience & understanding. As soon as we get closer to the instalment date, we can then confirm the start day & time with you via email. For jobs over $10,000 we ask for a further deposit of quoted price upon delivery of materials & commencement of works. We may require another payment if works are put on hold or are unable to proceed for a period of time. Full payment is to be made within 7 days after completion of works. Internet banking is our preferred method of payment, our banking details are noted on our invoices, we do not have credit card facilities.

WHAT ARE THE RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR POOL FENCES?
We are up to date with the latest fencing regulations, so will be able to inform you of local compliances. You may also like to phone 1800153262 to gather more information or look online for yourself https://www.business.qld.gov.au/industries/building-property-development/building-construction/laws-codes-standards/pool-safety
Current legislation makes swimming pool compliance compulsory, and fencing is the most effective method of compliance so responsible pool owners must comply to pool safety regulations . All pool fencing is supplied with a compliance certificate to certify that the fence panel/gate has been fabricated to comply with current pool fence regulations.
When we install your new pool fence you will have to have the installed fence certified. You must arrange and pay for an independent certifier to issue the certificate.
WHAT ABOUT NEIGHBOURS & BOUNDARY FENCING?
As a courtesy we recommend that you inform your neighbour of your fencing intentions.
If you would like your neighbour/s to contribute you must notify them prior to construction or repair. If you fail to give them a fencing notice or notice to repair, you will not be covered under the Dividing Fences Act (this act relates to the repair & or construction of fences that divide adjoining land) and you will be liable for the full cost of the fence.
Try to come to a mutual agreement on the type of fence that you would both like so you can agree to a fair share of the fence cost for each neighbour. If you would like a more expensive style of fence than the neighbour, you could compromise by the neighbour paying for their share of the cheaper option & you make up the difference so that both parties are happy.
SHARING COST WITH NEIGHBOURS, as per below.
SHARING COSTS WITH NEIGHBOURS
If you are sharing the costs with neighbours, we can forward information with the different options regarding who needs to sign acceptance, pay deposit etc. If the quote is in your name only, you are responsible for paying for all the work, we invoice you only & it’s up to you to get reimbursed from the other parties. At times neighbours require their own invoice in their names as well for tax purposes, which is when you would complete the sharing costs form before proceeding with any works. We have listed 3 options below, for option B or C, we will need your neighbours’ name, address, phone number & contact email and the agreed contribution so we can itemise the quotes/invoices before acceptance are signed. Work cannot be booked in & commence until signed quotes are received & deposit paid.
OPTION A- The quote, invoice & receipt are in your name only. You are the only one who needs to sign the acceptance of quote & it will be your responsibility to get neighbours share from them. You pay the deposit & balance to us then you collect your neighbours share.
OPTION B- The quote is in your name only, (quote includes breakdown of shared costs with your neighbours name stated), you & your neighbours will both need to sign the acceptance of quote. You pay the deposit & once job is completed; I generate an invoice for balance for you (minus deposit) & another invoice for your neighbour, with each party being responsible for making payments directly to me.
OPTION C- The quote is in your name only, (quote includes breakdown of shared costs with your neighbours name stated), you & your neighbours will both need to sign the acceptance of quote. I generate invoices for deposit for each neighbour. Once job is completed, I generate balance invoices with each party being responsible for making payments directly to me.

HOW LONG UNTIL INSTALLATION?
The booking schedule is normally 3 weeks in advance. Once we have received your signed acceptance & deposit. If fabrication is required, we need to allow at least 10 business days until suppliers have fabricated & powder coated these materials. At especially busy times this can take longer.
WHAT DO I NEED TO PREPARE BEFORE THE INSTALLATION?
We recommend you contact your local council to find out if there are any building regulations and permits required for building a fence. Confirm your properties boundary & check your house plans to determine the location of any underground gas, water, sewage and power lines. If required, you can contact the ‘dial before your dig’ https://www.1100.com.au/We can include removal & disposal of existing fencing/gates, if requested. Quote is based on the job site being clear of all debris, building material, spoil or growth for 500mm on each side of fence line if possible.
Removal of such material remains the client's responsibility unless such clearing is clearly identified and charged in the contract. Any clearing of vegetation, rubbish, or existing fences to allow work to commence may incur extra charges.
Asbestos removal will require you to arrange a professional. Please have an easily assessable clear area for contractors to drive up & park their work trucks near worksite. They often have a lot of materials with them (or a supplier may be delivering materials by truck) &/or your old fence to dispose of as well as their tools etc.We may also need power & water access.
WHAT REGULAR MAINTENANCE DOES MY FENCE/ GATE OR ENCLOSURE NEED?
We advise you to keep your fence in good order by regularly checking, replacing any missing hardware, tightening loose fittings, touch up of paint etc. A powder coated fence requires regular maintenance to keep it looking good. Regularly wash down your fence using a soft brush or sponge with warm water and a mild detergent. This should be done every 4-6 months; you will need to do this more often if your fence/gates or enclosures are near the ocean, chlorinated water, or industrial areas.A timber fence/gate/enclosure will last longer and weathers better if it is stained and sealed. These should be stained and sealed every 2-3 years. Most fence manufacturers recommend choosing a coloured stain as the pigments provide protection from sun damage. Clear sealants need to be reapplied every year.
HOW LONG WILL MY FENCE/GATES OR ENCLOSURE LAST?
Many factors affect the life of a fence including the materials used, ground conditions (soil, sand, etc) climate, human/animal contact etc. A properly installed fence should last a long time if it is appropriately maintained.
CAN WE GET GATES TO MATCH OUR FENCING/ ENCLOSURES?
Yes, matching gates can be manufactured to your requirements. If matching to an older existing fence, some colours may no longer be available so we will try to match the colours as close as possible. Sometimes having a different style or colour to your fencing can make these gates a real feature to your property & is an alternative to matching.
WHAT HAPPENS ON INSTALLATION DAY
We arrive on-site between 7.30-9.30 depending on location. Your job, the process, location of fence are discussed. Ask any questions you may have, update us if any changes are required or more clarification is needed We may need to be shown access to water or power before we set up.Each installation is dependant on your specific requirements. For a standard removal/disposal of existing & install of new, we generally start taking down old fencing, load it onto work truck & any other fencing materials from your old fence. We cut off old posts as close to ground as possible. We don’t dig these out unless this has been requested in your quote, as a lot more labour required, increasing price & generally not needed if new fence is being built where old fence was as not visible.Next, we generally set the new posts in concrete which are then left to set. Again, depending on job, we may start constructing fence/gates/enclosure at this time or return the following day to complete installation. When your job is complete, we endeavour to leave the area in the best manner making sure that all visible job materials have been removed. We want you to be completely happy with your new project, if you are home during installation, we encourage you to confirm fence line, height of gates etc before works commence. Also, every now & then go out to see that the work is progressing how you presumed, please talk to the installers if you are unsure of anything so that once job is completed it is how you had wanted.
